Packing and Sorting
Welcome to BFC Growers packing page. We are very proud of our state of the art packing operation. We first began packing our own cherries as Cherries Kokanee in 1998 and have continued to grow and improve since then, we now operate as BFC Growers.
Our Growers are committed to producing the best and safest product they can. All of the growers packing with us are certified under the EU Food Safe Program called GlobalGAP. This program audits all facets of food production to ensure that care for the environment and worker health and safety meet the highest standards. Our Cherries are produced under an Integrated Pest Management System (IPM) that ensures both a healthy environment and high quality products for our customers.
Our packing operation handles approximately 2 million pounds of Cherries per year; this is done in a 4 to 5 week period. We will generally run two shifts per day for 2 of those weeks and one shift for the other weeks. Day shift usually starts at 6 am and the second shift may start at 5pm. Employees do not have to work the entire time and must make arrangements with their respective supervisor. The packing shift schedule is determined by the amount of cherries harvested and delivered daily. BFC Growers is committed to a safe and secure workplace, prior to the packing season it is inspected by a number of agencies and buyers to ensure our standards are above reproach.
We are the largest cherry packing facility in the Creston Valley and have the longest period of operation. Generally we will run for approximately 30 days straight packing several varieties such as Skeena, Lapin, Sweetheart, Staccato, Sentennial and our own Kootenay Special.
